Patricia O'Brien, Secretary
Patricia O’Brien has been involved in NuDay Syria since its inception. She participated in some of the earliest days of collection for items shipped to Syria and continues her hands on work by collecting and storing items in her home and loading containers in Nashua. O’Brien is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and has a Masters degree from the Graduate School of Education, Harvard University. Prior to her work with NuDay Syria, O’Brien played an active role in a number of non-profit organizations including two local weekends schools, Al-Huda Society in Chelsea, MA and Dar-Ul-Arqam School in Burlington, MA. She is happily married to Mohammed Jamal-Eddine and lives with him and her three children, Sarah, Ameen, and Samira in Burlington, Massachusetts.
Iyad is an Electrical and Computer Engineer graduated from Wayne State University. He worked for several decades in the computer information industry for healthcare and was on staff of the Vice President to a 20 million dollar company rising there to be the head of the technical and software development department. He brings with him focus, integrity and determination. He is the webmaster, handles our Beirut contacts and is a field presence in Turkey and inside northern Syria.
Alison has a long history of humanitarian and volunteer work, but it was not until 2011 that she considered turning that focus to the Middle East. Determined to be more than just a bystander, Alison stumbled upon NuDay Syria's New Hampshire based work and quickly enlisted her coastal Maine community to help. She lives with her husband and two young children in her hometown of Camden, Maine where she serves on the town Budget Committee, Personnel Board and the environmental Conservation Commission.
Nadia Alawa, Founder and President
Nadia founded NuDay Syria to ensure containers and aid go out without delays to areas that might be off the beaten path, keeping women’s needs first and foremost in mind. She believes in strong networking and appreciates the work of other Syrian-American organizations, working together like a quilt to reach as many places and groups of people and needs as possible. Nadia identifies needs and creative ways of getting and optimizing aid and donations and appreciates the potential of social media in particular..
Dr. Aiman Alawa, Treasurer
Aiman takes care of all technical and logistical issues that need detail-oriented attention. He has a Ph.D. in engineering and is the founder of NuWatt Energy, a renewable energy company that focuses on solar energy. Aiman is a founder and board member of Syrian American Engineers Association.
